It’s hard to know who can be trusted; who is full of guile or deceit, and who, if anyone, is loyal to the four elemental realms of Imbria. This story has a unique style, presenting a deeply laminated and multi-faceted saga. The future of this fascinating world is being forged in the present by the past history of its leaders.

J. Barrett was thorough in describing the details of each character’s physical attributes. He gave the history of every character strategically without interrupting the main plot. Orabelle holds darkness within, and I became more curious as her personality developed. I think Blaise felt genuine affection for Orabelle, but her hatred of him was blatant. There was never a dull moment, and I immersed myself in the depiction of another world. The dialogue was engaging and the connection between Orabelle and the supporting characters was effortless. Halfway through the story, I hated Chronos as much as Orabelle did. The end of the story left me eager to dive into the sequel. Fantasy, family drama, and more await. I recommend Orabelle to readers who enjoy action-filled fantasy stories

“An exciting new world filled with elemental magic and political intrigue. This is an excellent start to an epic new fantasy series”

Orabelle is a novel that manages to do quite a lot, without having a long page count. The story not only introduces the amazing fantasy world, but also serves as an introduction to its series. The novel really sets the scene for an epic and exciting series to come. The author did a fantastic job building the world of the story, and introducing it to the reader, in a complete way without being too heavy on exposition. The world-building felt very natural and was seamlessly integrated into the story. The magic system in the novel was an elemental system and it was so interesting to read about. The author put a lot of thought into how each element could be used, and there was some points where I was pleasantly surprised by how the magic was used, and how it made the story stand out to me. The plot had a great deal of twists and turns. Events left me with questions right up to the last page of the book, and its ending set the stage for an interesting second entry into the series.”

MAIALEN

Book 2

A WORLD ON THE EDGE OF CHAOS. AN ANCIENT EVIL AWAKENED. A FAMILY TORN APART.

It has been ten years since the fateful battle of Queen’s End, and Samirra is ravaged by famine and plague. The Council of Elements has fallen apart, and Maialen, the Keeper of Earth, is the only one who seems to care about holding together the tenuous peace amongst the realms. As the threat of the Fomori grows and war seems inevitable, she realizes that to save her own kingdom and the rest of Imbria, Maialen will have to betray those she has sworn allegiance to and look to the last person she ever thought she would trust.

All the while, the looming prophecy of the Solvrei still hangs over the world like a dark shadow. To do what is right, Maialen must decide if she believes the prophecy, and if her sister’s child is truly of divine blood, or if he is merely a deranged little boy raised to believe that he is the descendant of Gods, another of Orabelle’s mistakes that she is forced to try to correct.

Whatever the Earth Keeper chooses, the fate of the four realms now rests on her

BLAISE

Book 3

SOMETIMES THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP THE WORLD FROM BURNING.

For generations, the Keepers of Imbria have wielded the power of the four elements and kept their world safe, fostering peace and prosperity. They were united in this endeavor until one of the Keepers chose to forge her own path, igniting a spark that could burn their entire world to ash. Orabelle, the Water Keeper and Queen of Lehar, has unwittingly set in motion a chain of events that heralds the return of an ancient evil and begins a struggle for power that turns families against each other and allies into enemies.

The prophecy of the Solvrei was never anything that Blaise believed in. He scoffed at the old legends, preferring to rule with action and consequence rather than mystical stories interpreted to suit the needs of those who coveted power. But now the Keeper of Fire has lost everything that once mattered to him, and he stands at the precipice of a new era, one where the Keepers of Imbria no longer reign unchecked and supreme. All he has left to hold on to in a crumbling world is his promise to protect the life of one young child, a boy whose destiny has been entangled with the prophecy of the Solvrei. Blaise’s determination to safeguard the child forces him to come to terms with old adversaries, and to realize that the ancient tales he always laughed at might be the key to saving their future. His journey to find the truth and reclaim what he has lost will lead him to confront new enemies he never expected to face, including those within himself.

“Blaise” is the exciting next installment in The Keepers of Imbria series and the epic adventure continues in this cynical but heartfelt tale told by the man who everyone is determined to hate.

Eolande is a work of fiction penned by author J. Barrett in the
fantasy, adventure, and action genres, and is the fourth novel in
The Keepers of Imbria series. The work is suitable for the general
adult reading audience. Eolande, the prophesied child of the last
true Water Keeper, endures a decade of captivity in Veruca,
exploited for her divine blood. A shocking betrayal enables her to
escape, thrusting her into a world where she’s hunted by rulers
seeking her power. As the legendary Solvrei, she holds the key to
saving a world in turmoil, torn apart by her corrupt aunt, the Earth
Keeper. With the delicate balance disrupted and war looming,
Eolande must choose her allies and confront her destiny in the final
battle.
Author J. Barrett has crafted an exhilarating novel that kept me on
the edge of my seat from start to finish and allows readers to slot
right into the action of the series so far. Barrett masterfully weaves
together elements of adventure, betrayal, and redemption, creating
a compelling and well-paced narrative that explores themes of
power, sacrifice, and the complexities of family. I loved the way that
this showed in the dialogue especially, which feels emotionally
authentic but also characterizes the many strong figures that
Eolande encounters during her journey. The characters are vividly
drawn in terms of their physical descriptions and actions too, each
with their motivations and struggles that all readers will relate to.
The relentless pace and high-stakes action kept me turning pages
with plenty of satisfying twists, eager to discover the fate of
Eolande and her world. Overall, Eolande delivers a satisfying
conclusion that will linger in the minds of readers long after the last
page is turned, and I would highly recommend it and the series in
general to fantasy fans everywhere.
